In his Truth Social platform, Trump said, “your investments are welcome, and we encourage you to legally bring your very smart people, with great technical talent, to build World Class products, and we will make it quickly and legally possible for you to do so.”
Trump told foreign companies in the post that they should hire and train American workers as a favour. “Together, we will all work hard to make our Nation not only productive, but closer in unity than ever before,” he added.
Workers On Short-Term Or Recreational Visas
In a raid on the Hyundai Plant, ICE said that many of the car workers were on short-term or recreational visas, saying “not authorized to work in the US”. ICE said that the raid was necessary to protect American jobs.
It was reported that none of these detained workers were directly employed by the car marker.
“The individuals arrested during the operation were found to be working illegally, in violation of the terms of their visas and/or statuses,” the ICE statement added.
The raid is marked as the largest single-site immigration enforcement action in US history. The plant, part of a $7.6 billion electric vehicle battery project by Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution. This is also the largest industrial investment in Georgia’s history.
Hyundai, in its statement after the raid, clarified that none of the detained individuals were its direct employees. The company stressed that it requires all contractors and subcontractors to strictly adhere to applicable laws.
